It's Returning
After this weekend and finishing the dreaded taxes (which translates into "having combed the house for every last receipt down till the deadline") I am going to be back to the writing with a new dedication. I'm ready to aim for the balance between creating, editing and submitting.
I mailed another manuscript yesterday. Flying Fingers came back with a no, but you know what, it didn't bother me! I think I have good rejection callouses in place. Even if I can't spell them. I already had another market chosen to send it to. That will go back out on Monday as well as a request for a sample issue to another potential market for one of the other articles I did for class. View Finder has not boomeranged back to me with a resounding NOT ON YOUR LIFE, which is encouraging.
We are endeavoring to drum up a crit group over at Skateboard, and even if it is only LuAnn and Willa and I at first that's okay. Small might be the best way to start. Then I'm thinking we might be able to branch out to the mailing list for others that might want to crit but not attend workshops.
Crit groups were one suggestion on how to keep yourself producing. If you have to show up at a group with something to offer, it acts as a deadline. I need to get back to creating. I have so much in the drawers to send out, but unless the well is filling up behind these as they go, I'm going to run dry. Optimistically thinking there. Besides it's where the joy lies. The sense of discovery. The treasure hunt.
I think I can learn to like revision too, if I can get a loose method down, which I'm working on. I think I know how I'm going to start, thanks to the tools Darcy Pattison taught. I just have to narrow it down to a process that doesn't take six months to accomplish.
So there you have it. Proof I haven't died or completely forgot to blog. I honestly have not had the time, but I seriously want to make the time. I have been journaling for 20 minutes every morning--first thing in my day. I am enjoying LifeJournal for Writers and I'm sure I'll love it all the more if I ever understand everything it does.
Write on, everyone! Write on!
