And on...
It was a twenty-minute ride to a town large enough to offer a motel, and it was an interesting process waking up the desk clerk, who, to her credit, had fallen asleep with the TV on the local PBS station. Who knew what she was absorbing subconsciously.
It was also a blessing in that she didn't seem any more alert when Drayson left with key in hand to let herself into a small room on the upper floor. The clerk would be hard-pressed to come up with a description if she were ever asked. Unless she absorbed appearances subconsciously as well.
Drayson threw her backpack on the bed, and bounced beside it a couple times. She was tempted to turn on the television, but instead fell back on the bed and stared at the ceiling, until she had to close her eyes. The vision of the little town rose then. She knew in her gut that the place would play a part in her life. It wasn't one of the many she would just pass through.
Question was, how much of a part would she play? Would the fourth wall stay in place, or disintegrate? And why did it matter? Why was she obsessing on this? Always before she let things unfold on their own, but now she wanted a new control. Why?
She was way too tired to be wrestling with something so important. She'd paid for two days, knowing she would sleep through the 11:00 checkout time, though truth be told, that was stupid. Today was today. It was practically morning. Drayson shook her muddled head and sat up.
It was time for a shower and a fresh light that would come after a sound sleep.

Today's word: fourth wall

As always, I love your snippets. Except for one thing: they always leave me wanting MORE! lol :^) It sure is nice to be reading blogs again. I need my escapes... One day I'll blog about how this year feels like one earthquake after another to me. I'm still too close to it to write about it yet. ~S
