Looking for an “In”
So I'm stuck on this kids' article I'm trying to put together. I'm looking for a lead-in that grabs, and so far all I've come up with are lead-ins that yawn.
So I'm left with pounding away at it, perhaps writing the rest of the article hoping something will strike me. Or trying a challenge or a quick write of some type just to let my mind wander over words.
Or just blabbing on and on which is what I'll probably do.
What a glorious, glorious September day we've been given after being inundated yesterday. I went outside early this morning to get a feel for it. The air is crisp and very fall; a distinct chill blew past. It was 59 degrees, which is cooler than it's been most days on Marrowstone Island for the past week or so. It gives me a good idea how "heavy" to pack.
Given all the rain we've had this summer, I've been awful about remembering to water the plants on my front porch which are very droopy and sad today. I am reminded that it is time to prepare places for them for the winter which may come upon us early like every other season has this year.
Which reminds me of how behind I am on this entire house. It's time for me to dedicate a week, draft a kid and just re-organize as much as I can. Inevitably for one area to be efficiently full, it takes another area to move the excess or mis-stored items to, and that area needs attention before there is room. After awhile it's frustrating enough that it becomes easy to pitch stuff that should have been pitched ages ago.
I'm just not doing so well today with this writing thing. I wish I knew what was the matter with me. I keep thinking if I just get going I'll be okay. So far it hasn't worked out that way. I get going and can't seem to stay going.
Stupid lead-in. If that would just come to me, I know I'd have the rest of this down. The research has been so interesting.
Okay, I'm going back to the drawing board. I think I got my 1200 for the week anyway. I need to figure out again how many we need a week/day to accomplish NaNo. That's what I thought—it's 1,700. Per day, instead of per week. I think I'll go figure out how to work up to that.
Oh, to have a specific job to do. It's great. (Find a lead-in!)
