Attempt Number Two
All the houses were clumped together, as if they had sprouted legs, ran toward the shore and stopped short of getting their feet wet. A few stood on tippy toe, anxious to see which boats were returning and if they sat low in the water, full of fish.
Okay--can that be a start and a finish? I was looking at a photo of a Swedish fisherman's village. But would anything happen there? Nothing seemed inclined to speak to me.
The colors of the houses are intersting. Most are white but there is a mustard yellow one and a couple of barn red ones, and a brown one. I have to wonder how they got built, one on top of the other as they are, and if given time then would become one big house.
It reminds me of Seahouses, but then any fishing village will remind me of that place. I wish I could see it again and take pictures.
Well I opened the fishing village picture to get a better look. There is not only the tangle of roofs on what are probably net and tackle shacks right on the water, but also a tangle of power lines and fence lines, and a walkway that is probably a pier though it is impossible to see where it goes or what it does. That must be left to the imagination, which I wish would WAKE UP!
There are boats. Three small row boats, two anchored in the water and one turned upside down. A few buoys would bob if the picture was allowed to move. There is not a human being to be found.
One of the buildings along the water has a sign announcing that it is a museum. Interesting. Skepparhuset has its very own museum. So what exciting things have happened over the years here? Who is the person that maintains the exhibits and explains their significance to strangers? What if one of the visitors wasn't so much a stranger but someone looking for a birth mother? What if the museum held every important thing that happened in the town except for one?
Yes there are stories here. I just have to let my mind play over questions, like the colors smear and combine in the ripples of the water.
