Back to Blogging?

I have been reluctant about getting back to writing here after the eerily predictive nature of my last post.

For those who aren't aware, on the afternoon of 29th of February my son was involved in an automobile accident. He was turning left and was struck on the driver's side by a pickup, driven by a contractor who was momentarily distracted because he saw a fellow contractor on the road, and consequently never saw his red light. (How many times has my attention been drawn by a friend driving by who I simply must wave to!) My ds had to be extracted from the vehicle from the passenger side and suffered a pelvic break, compression fracture of the tailbone and a bruised lung. It's amazing that is all, given the condition of the car, so we were very thankful. And yes, he was wearing a seatbelt that the hospital personnel seemed adamant made a huge difference in his outome. We've been even more thankful in that he is healing very well, making better progress than any of us expected, himself included. He's a very determined young man who keeps a positive frame of mind, and takes good care of his health as well, which, together with his youth, are obviously working in his favor. We have our first follow-up visit with the orthopedic doctor on Tuesday afternoon. I'm excited about seeing what he has to say.

I'd forgotten about the "Buggins turn" post until I spent one finally quiet evening at home after spending uncounted hours at the hospital and opened up my blog page to surf to friends' blogs in search of something to read. When I read my post, I got chills and every inclination I had to write here hit the trail.

Then, as time has passed, the more logical side of me has decided that if the blog is to be predictive in nature, then it is incumbent on me to write about happy, successful, positive situations in which all characters involved are healthy, happy and on the road to peace. According to the writing world in general, this would be a very boring blog, as it is conflict that makes stories happen. Well, it might be boring but it may be all you get for a while. I ain't riskin' another catastrophe! :)

Life goes on. I have my most important day of the year coming up on the 22nd, that so far has been woefully neglected. Getting back on an even keel after such an episode is not an easy thing. I was prepared to give myself a few days once the hospital stay was over, but I still get lost in the week and have to stop and figure out which day we're on, and sometimes even what season we're in as the weather here is still having more mood swings than a I did in any of my last trimesters. Things have settled down enough now, though that I can focus on what is important, and that's what I intend to do.

A week after that I am signed up for the spring SCBWI Conference for the Oklahoma chapter on the 29th. I'm trying to be ready for the conference, but it's hard when you don't know quite what to be ready for. I have these grand dreams of meeting "the" editor at one of these things, but then I get there and the shy me takes over and mostly I listen to things I've heard before with a glimmer of hope that I may be able to submit something somewhere that not everyone else can, and it will give me a leg up. Perhaps open is a better term. I'll go to the conference and be open--to opportunities, to possibilities--open to have the courage to walk through doors that lead could lead to....

I'm so sorry this happened! You are all in my prayers. I'm glad he is healing well. If there is anything I can do, you know how to reach me. Love to all, Kat

Hi Carolyn,

I'm keeping your family in my thoughts and prayers, and wishing for a full and speedy recovery for your son.

One thing that really impressed me was your empathy for the other driver. It's so easy to lose your concentration when driving, but not every mom would have had so much compassion under these circumstances. You are an inspiration to me!

Kat, thanks! It's always a thrill to see you've been by.

Karen, it's great to "see" you here too! Thank you for the kind words. I needed them today!
