Getting Started

My second favorite household chore is ironing. My first being hitting
my head on the top bunk bed until I faint. ~Erma Bombeck

My favorite household chore these days is minimizing. There is a lightness in letting go.

I can’t believe the amount of clothes we are chucking. "Chucking" means donating because most of the items are in good shape, just hanging out in closets and drawers going unnoticed and unloved, and how can we continue to do that to any good and useful thing?

The laundry room is coming together, though I have yet to tackle the table. I’ve culled the corner—the games now have a new home, and I believe I’m going to leave the TV trays (till I can afford new ones), shelf paper and houseplant paraphernalia there because this is the room where my porch plants come to vacation for the winter. The shelf paper may find another home as I clear items out, but for now it all fits nicely in a plastic bin and if we had to get out of the house via that door, we could. Maybe. It might be stuck shut for all I know. We haven’t used it in at least five years if not longer; we have three others that work fine.

I’m also going to sell the china. I don’t think we’d ever truly enjoy using it. If I got new dishes, I’d want stoneware or something that no one is going to have a heart attack over if it gets broken. I do have a black and white set with a silver rim hiding up in a storage cabinet I can’t reach, and every now and then we drag it down for company, so that is enough. So why not make a little cash selling what I have to companies that sell replacement pieces? I even found out how here: http://www.ehow.com/how_2082754_sell-used-china.html and here:

It will require and investment in bubble wrap and good boxes, and I'm going to put a pencil to it, but I think it will be worth it.

And so now, I'm off to tackle that top bunk...... :)

You have inspired me! I've been thinking about going through my drawers and closets, and culling and today I'm going to do it. :-)

Yay! Hope it goes well... It seems to take me sooooo long to make visible progress then I'm an absolute ogre about other people messing it up! :)
