I'm being sacrilegious. It's 7:01 PM, OU is playing a championship football game and I have the TV off.
I love being obstinate.
I'm sorry but I can't get past the fact that we have a ton of people here who are getting way too involved in something that really means nothing.
Don't get me wrong--I watch my share of football. I root for both Oklahoma teams (but don't tell anyone here in my house--strictly OU people). It puts me in a tough spot during the bedlam game because I really and truly don't care who wins. But I guess being truthful, I really don't care who wins any of the games.
I can't get past the fact that OU's head coach makes 1.3 mil a year. 1.3 million dollars. Then I have to ask the question--exactly why is OU in existence? Isn't it to educate? Then why do we pay people more to entertain than we do to educate? Why is it that in our world, the most crucial of positions--the molding and shaping of individuals, minds, and self-worth--are the most poorly paid and least respected of all positions? Teachers should be making more than athletes. Period.
Take the stay-at-home mom, for instance. Now I'm not meaning to open up a can of worms here, but if a mom is in a position to stay home with her children, and chooses to pour her time and attention into molding and shaping future citizens of the world to be upstanding and productive, doesn't that deserve some sort of honor and respect? Instead she's "only" a housewife. She "doesn't work." Bologna! (I can spell it the real way!!) She's one of the most conscientious human beings on the planet and she deserves to be taken care of first by her own family--children, grandchildren--and then by society in general if it's necessary. She doesn't deserve to be sloughed off like a wart.
Rant almost over.
So I have a hard time with football coaches and players that make money hand over fist while mothers struggle to care for their children, teachers go without, and dads work too many jobs just to keep food on the table. Some of those millions should be spread out. Let's face it--you don't need $1.3 mil a year to exist comfortably. You can have a very happy comfortable life for way less than that.
But that's this system and it's warped values. Man can't change it until he lets someone set the boundaries of right and wrong for him. And who better to do that than his Maker?
So I wonder what the score is?
